nRoute around the web & the coming r/evolution

Over the last couple of weeks I've got a lot of positive feedback on nRoute, which is absolutely delightful and I am very thankful to everyone for that. I am sure every developer (an artist in every right) is thrilled when their work is appreciated, and I am no different - plus all this definitely pushes us to do even better work.

Over the weekend nRoute and it's Future Desktop demo app was featured on both Channel 9, and on10. They were also highlighted on a Spanish technology site under the title "2019 comienza en 2009", which translated means "2019 begins in 2009", interesting way to put it. Plus they were also numerous other mentions on blogs from all over the world, all very exciting.

Get Microsoft Silverlight Godzilla

Lastly, I want to kind of put out a teaser that something is coming to nRoute that would be r/evolutionary. I personally think it is going to be Godzilla huge, and take the web in a new direction. These are very bold statements for sure, and I'm even prone to hyperbole - still there is something I am definitely very very excited about, and you might want to keep an eye out for it too!

I came across your website/posts via WynApse at geekswithblogs.net/.../Default.aspx

I have to say I am VERY impressed, especially the detailed provided in your posts. nRoute is an excellent piece of work, and your 2019 Vision demo definately shows the possibilities (which only took a minor tweak to get working under SL3b).  There are some seriously cool features packed into that code.

Anyways, eagerly awaiting news of the r/evolution.  I'm thinking a post up of "Godzilla vs. Megalon" with Beastie Boys - Intergalactic jamming in the background.

@mikekidder, appreciate your kind words. And ya, there is a lot of stuff in nRoute, though for now I've kinda stopped the posts midway to work on the r/evolutionary thing. But I'll have a couple of more posts, first about the remaining core offerings in nRoute, followed by lots of examples, more features on extensibility and also an extended demo app - pls give it some time. Lastly, the r/evolution thing is just way cool.. I am working on it right now, and boy do I see potential.. but, I can't say much.. however, I like your visualization of it ;)

I'll be definitely keeping an eye on your work Smile Can't wait to see your "r/evolution", nice teasing !

I'd like to know, do you plan on upgrading your code for a SL 3.0 version ? If so, will you keep your behaviour implementation (which is Prism version if I'm not mistaken) or just replace it with the native one ?

Actually, the only thing bothering me right now with your framework is the size of it Frown Of course, I could get rid of all the custom behaviours, but hey ! I just can't, it's too useful !

Anyway, great work, very interesting posts !

@Cyril, thanks mate. Firstly, you are right the behaviours are the reason for the size-bloat, the attached behaviours model in xaml mandate static classes which unfortunately are not inheritable else it would have really been a trim fit. And the Prism thing is that, I use their model in coding the behaviours - which is basically a separate behaviour definition base class.

Now, I've really not sunk my teeth into Blend Behaviours, but as it stands I am thinking of separating the behaviours into a separate assembly so that I can substitute them with Blend behaviours or alternatively for SL2 apps avail the current set of behaviours too.  This will also ensure nRoute doesn't take a direct dependency on Blend, only the behaviours will. However, I am not sure how much size reduction can be achieved by using Blend behaviours, because you'll need to include their assemblies/assembly. Nonetheless, as a performance measure, you can perhaps leverage the SL3 assembly deployment/caching facilities in this regard.

Currently, I've been able to use nRoute in SL3 as is, however going forward I want to take advantage of specific features in SL3 which requires some thinking/tinkering. But, I've got my hands tied with the r/evolution thing, so give me some time - all the same, consider it has been less than 2 weeks since nRoute has been out, and you will get something r/evolutionary soon ;)
